Help Fantasy Grounds Academy To Pass On The Knowledge Of Roleplaying Games

FG Academy is looking to add more volunteers to help us teach others how to use the FG program as a player, GM, or content creators.

If you haven’t joined our discord, please do this to help confirm your interest and intent. Fantasy Grounds Academy Discord Community Link We have changed our recruiting format so that you can now just inform us yourself which rulesets you are proficient in and what you would like to teach. We can always use D&D5e instructors, but if you know any other rulesets and how to create characters, run as a GM, or any helpful automation, please check the applicable boxes if you’re willing to teach these rulesets as well.

FG Academy Recruitment Poster

What are we looking for from our volunteers? First, thank you for your interest in offering your time to help others learn how to use Fantasy Grounds. We know that life can sometimes get in the way, and volunteering is way down on the lists that need to get done in your life, so we appreciate your help.

  1. We are looking for someone that can teach arouond 2 classes a month. Our character GM, Maptools, and intro classes are probably the most needed as that is what we recommend new users learn first. Class length for each class type varies depending on the ruleset, but usually the classes run from 1 ½ hours to 2 ½ hours. We have tools to teach you how to post your classes on the events calendar, and we have helpful graphics you can post for your students to show them how to manage Discord (which is where we teach our classes) and set up their push to talk, choose a character, log into a session, etc. Our GM classes usually last around 2 to 2 ½ hours, depending on questions, and are taight by using the Discord screenshare. No one logs into your table for this particular class type.

  2. Besides teaching, if you have time to answer any questions in the ruleset you are proficient in, or can help with greeting new members, that is helpful but not required. (We have specific channels for the most popular rulesets. Having an experienced user to help people with questions here is greatly appreciated.)

  3. If you need to take off some time as things got busy in your life, please do keep in contact with Laerun & Windrunner, who is our Head of Staff, so our team undertands your needs or your abcense. If you agree with all of the above, please join our Discord Link above below and Windrunner or Laerun will communicate with you Discord.

Once you’ve talked with the admins in our community Discord, we’d like you to get to know our server, and maybe after interacting with our community members, you’ll then be ready to post your first class. Help will be given in doing this, we will support your efforts.

You will need to have a licensed copy of Fantasy Grounds Unity, or Classic (Unity is the preferred edition, as it is the version used for most of our classes), and we would prefer that you have an Ultimate license, or an Ultimate subscription, so that members that have only the Demo can access your table if needed. You should also have a working headset and mic so that you can communicate with your students. We are willing to train applicants that have the desire to donate their time to help people learn how to use the Fantasy Grounds VTT platform. Lastly, we’d like someone to teach at least two times a month. The times are up to you. We have members from all over the world, and we love to be accommodating to everyone’s schedule as much as possible. We can talk to you about the expectations (both ours and yours) if you agree to volunteer to teach, we will give you some resources, and we will have you teach a couple of classes as a regular member. After the trial period, if you are still interested in joining our team, we would then have you speak with our founder Laerun to request the Faculty role.

Our DM classes and New Users classes are taught through Screen share, and our Character Creation, Combat, and most other classes are taught with students logging onto your table, again, using Discord for voice communications.

All the best,

Fantasy Grounds Academy Volunteer Team
