Fantasy Grounds Unity 4.8.2 on Unity 6 LTS: Updated System Requirements & User Tips

August 2025

Fantasy Grounds Unity has grown a lot since its early beta days. With version 4.8.2, the platform now runs on Unity 6 LTS. This means better stability and smoother features like Line of Sight and lighting, but it also means the program now expects more from your computer.

The current requirements are a bit more clear: you’ll want Windows 10/11, macOS 11+, or Ubuntu 22.04+, at least 8 GB of RAM, and a graphics card with 4 GB of memory to have a smooth experience. An SSD is strongly recommended for faster loading. Internet connection is still important too, since Fantasy Grounds relies on peer-to-peer play.

Sytem requirements here.

Older systems, especially pre-2015 machines, may still launch the software, but they often struggle with large maps or heavy effects. Mid-range systems from 2015–2020 usually do fine with some adjustments, like using smaller maps or turning down lighting effects. More modern systems should be able to run everything smoothly.

Also, older hardware, no mouse, a two button only mouse, or even a track pad, and a 15" or less screen or monitor will likely not be a positive experience.

As a fellow end user—and not speaking officially—it’s clear that Fantasy Grounds is maturing year by year. The requirements have gone up, but the improvements are real. If you’re running into trouble, keep things simple: resize maps, use WebP formatted images for faster loading, avoid too many extra or unnecessary modules, and perhaps cut down on complex map lighting.

As of August 2025, Fantasy Grounds Unity on Unity 6 LTS is more capable than ever, but it implies a bit more from our hardware. The platform will keep evolving, and it’s worth keeping your setup ready for the changes ahead.
